Glass Roof conservatories are becoming increasingly popular with the advances in high performance glass units available within the market. Selecting the right set up of glass for your new conservatory roof is very important in order to avoid it becoming too hot in the summer/too cold in the winter. Self Cleaning Glass/Solar Control – Pilkington are very strong in the solar control/self cleaning glass market. Their range is known as Active and is available in either blue or clear. Their active range of glass combines dual-action, self-cleaning properties
with solar control performance for a cooler internal environment. Specially designed for the optimum roof unit, Pilkington Activ™ Blue /Clear is a revolutionary new glass that is perfect for use in conservatories. It uses daylight and rainwater to break down and wash away organic dirt from exterior surfaces, making it ideal for hard to reach places that are difficult to clean. Its unique blue colour also helps keep internal temperatures cooler whilst still maintaining excellent light transmittance. For optimum self-cleaning and thermal performance, combine Pilkington Activ™ Blue/Clear with Pilkington K Glass.

K Glass/Low E glass – Is used on the inside pane of glass. K/Low E glass keep heat in. It works by allowing heat from the sun in (Shortwave) by reflects heat from fires/radiators (Longwave) back in. This therefore improves thermal efficiency. Pilkington optitherm can also be used to reduce heat loss.

Tinted Glass – Using grey or bronze tints can reduce light transmission by 30% compared to clear glass

Artic Blue – Aqua Green – The cool blue glass creates a comfortable interior without sacrificing natural light. Richer than pale blue, softer than deep blue, Pilkington Arctic Blue™ is a body tinted float glass providing high daylight transmittance, good solar control and attractive cool colour.

Argon Filled Units - Replaces the air inside the glass unit. Since it is heavier than air and isn’t in continuous motion like air is greatly reduces the transference of heat and cold (Convection). In simple terms the argon gas provides extra insulation and energy efficiency. It Reduces heat loss by up to 20%

Obscure Glass – Can be used in locations where privacy is an issue. The most popular type would be either stipolyte or contour. By using this on the inside pane rather than Low e / k glass this will decrease the performance of the unit.
